I am not gonna lie, your friends and family will most likely interject their opinions and taste on your wedding day vision (mostly because they love and care about you).
As a Utah Wedding Photographer, I have seen my fair share of this!
To help you combat this on your special day, here are some ways to check yourself and make sure your personal touches stay present and authentic TO YOU!
ONE | INCORPORATE YOUR STYLE
If you were a mood board, what would you look like?
What words would you use to describe yourself?
If you drew an ABOUT ME picture like everyone does on the first day of elementary school, what would that picture include, and what adorable little drawings would be floating around your cute smiley face of a head?
It’s OK to incorporate these things on your big day! More than not I find it makes your wedding incredibly unique and joyful!!!
For example, this couple LOVES swing dancing. LIKE LOVES IT! So they chose to incorporate 50’s saddle shoes, a vintage suit jacket, a bridal dress with a poodle skirt flair, and pops of reds and hearts all throughout their wedding decor! It was a perfect representation of the couples’ fun spirit and personality and they were having a ball the entire time!
TWO | SPRINKLE IN YOUR HOBBIES
What hobbies of yours bring you the most joy in life?
If they are important to you, then why not incorporate these on your big day? Love board games? Have them at each guest's table! Love dancing? Bring out the flash mob and sunglasses! Love horses? Wear your boots and rent the barn!
TALKING ABOUT THE WEDDING FEATURED
Other than swing dancing, this couple also had a deep passion for Karaoke! They hired a KJ (Karaoke Jockey), sang their way down the aisle, and had all their friends and family belting out their favorite tunes during their reception.
It was so fun and everyone was so excited to sing their song and dance like crazy!
Let me tell you that this bridal party and fam were incredibly talented! It was probably the most talent I’ve ever seen squished all into one space - these people could sing!
Besides, including their own talents and hobbies, this couple also included their family’s unique skill set to make their vision come to life. The sister of the bride loved making cakes. So, she made their beautiful spread of cakes and designed it in the couple's vintage swing style . Other members in the family were skilled at crocheting and crocheted the toppers of the cake!
At the end of this spirited couple's big day, everyone left incredibly joyful and kept echoing how the day was so “them!”
It was a wedding I’ll never forget, either! It was just so unique! We can all use the wedding to inspire us to incorporate a little more of ourselves on our big day, too!
