Cute Christmas Card Mini Photoshoots to set up on a Budget

The glow of a Christmas tree, a cup of hot cocoa, the warm-hearted kindness, and a crackling fire are all some of my favorite things about the holidays. As a northern Utah photographer, I love telling the story of Christmas joy in my photos. One fun way to do this on a budget, is by hosting Christmas Card Mini Photoshoots.

The Set Up

  1. Doing a Christmas Card Mini shoot can even be done in your home. However, you will want a lighter wall near a window for the bright and airy look.

  2. Use props from around your house with neutral colors so you can use them year to year, and the outfits can bring those pops of Holiday colors in the shoot.

    • We used moving boxes and wrapped them as gifts. We made sure to safely store them, so we’re able to reuse them for several years.

  3. Use lighter/neutral toned chairs or props that won’t distract from the family and their outfits.

  4. Add warm tones to your editing style to give your photos a warm Christmas-y feel.

Make It For a Cause

Each year I give part of the funds to the Utah Food Bank and people are welcome to bring canned foods/donations. It is so heart-warming to create memories for families and also give back to the community with your clients!

Conclusion

You can create an easy set that still captures the holidays and gives back! Give it a try and let me know how it goes!
